About

CNC Operator and Programmer

Our client, a successful manufacturing business near Norwich, is seeking a CNC Operator and Programmer to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Norwich.

Hours

Basic hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with a lunch break from 1:00pm - 1:30pm. Normal working hours are 7:00am - 5:00pm. Hours may vary seasonally, increasing in winter or reducing in summer.

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Flexible approach to working hours, able to work extended hours occasionally.
• Good understanding of CNC machining, design, and engineering principles.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM capabilities.
• Experience with CNC router or similar programming background is preferred.
• Ability to learn proprietary programming software.
• Ability to read and understand CAD/CAM drawings.
• Practical CNC knowledge transfer into program variables.
• Basic understanding of PC file structures and MS Office.
• Understanding of basic engineering calculations.
• Appreciation of business concepts.
• Experience in a machining environment, specifically with CNC machines in wood or metal work.

Job Purpose

• Operate and program CNC machines.
• Responsible for XYZ Milling and CNC extrusion machining center for aluminium extrusions production.
• Ensure machining quality and adherence to principles and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and program the CNC extrusion machining center using proprietary software (Shapes).
• Optimize processes for minimal material wastage and machine utilization.
• Report issues to supervisor.
• Train to perform a range of tasks within the machining/finishing department.
• Collaborate with design engineers to resolve product queries.
• Coordinate with the Machine Shop Department Leader on work schedules.
• Report shortages of materials, tooling, or consumables.
• Assist in machine maintenance following manufacturer guidelines.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Follow all health and safety procedures.
• Work with other production functions to resolve machining issues.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO9001 standards.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as required.

Additional Details

Holidays: 32 days per year, including public holidays and 3-4 days during Christmas shutdown.
