Job summary

Smith and Brown Cabinetmakers in London North is seeking a skilled CNC Operator to run Homag routing and nesting for high-quality furniture components. You will read technical drawings, load programs, adjust offsets, and inspect finished parts with precision.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in woodworking CNC programming, experience with Homag centres (BHC/Centateq/Weeke), and strong CAD/CAM skills. Join a workshop focused on craftsmanship, training, and career growth.

Qualifications

  • Three+ years in CNC programming for woodworking or cabinet making.
  • Experience operating multi-axis Homag CNC machining centres (BHC, Centateq, Weeke).
  • Knowledge of MDF, solid wood and laminates and machining characteristics.
  • Understanding of G-Code and Homag software (WoodWOP) or equivalents.
  • Proficient CAD/CAM for design review and program generation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in production.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills for feeds, speeds, and clearances.
  • Clear communication to production teams and stakeholders.
  • Optional technical certification or apprenticeship in CNC/woodworking.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, test, and run Homag CNC machinery safely and accurately.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, CAD files, and cut lists.
  • Load programs using WoodWOP and adjust tool offsets or parameters.
  • Load raw wood panels and unload finished components.
  • Check finished parts with measuring tools for size and quality.
  • Change worn cutting tools and perform daily maintenance and cleaning.
  • Maintain a clean work area and follow health and safety rules.

The Role

We need a skilled CNC Homag Operator to join our busy manufacturing and workshop team. You will run Homag CNC routing, nesting machinery to produce high-quality furniture and joinery parts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, test, and run Homag CNC machinery safely and accurately.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, CAD files, and cut lists.
  • Load programs using software like WoodWOP and adjust tool offsets or parameters.
  • Load raw wood panels and unload finished components.
  • Check finished parts with measuring tools to ensure correct sizes and high quality.
  • Change worn cutting tools and perform daily basic machine cleaning and maintenance.
  • Keep the work area clean and follow all health and safety rules.
About You
  • A minimum of three year’s experience in CNC programming, specifically within a woodworking or cabinet-making environment
  • Experience operating and programming multi-axis Homag CNC machining centres such as BHC, Centateq or Weeke
  • Knowledge of woodworking and joinery processes, including the machining characteristics of materials such as MDF, solid wood and laminates
  • An understanding of G-Code principles
  • Familiarity with Homag software, such as WoodWOP (or similar platforms like CutRite) or a strong foundation in Alphacam or Solidworx with a willingness to cross-train
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for design review and program generation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to precision and quality control
  • Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude for calculating feeds, speeds and clearances
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively relay complex technical information to the production team
  • A relevant technical certification, vocational degree or apprenticeship in CNC Machining, Woodworking Technology or a related engineering field (preferred)
