Job summary

CR3 Recruit is seeking a CNC Operator for their Essex-based workshop near Chelmsford. The role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines to produce components from timber, MDF and sheet materials for bespoke projects.

You will read technical drawings and cutting programmes, maintain equipment, and work closely with design and workshop teams to ensure high-quality finishes on time. A proactive attitude and safe working practices are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in operating CNC machinery.
  • Ability to read technical drawings/CAD files and cutting programmes.
  • Experience with timber, MDF or sheet materials is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD files and cutting programmes.
  • Produce accurate timber, MDF, plywood and sheet material components.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure work meets required specifications.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good working order.
  • Load materials safely and monitor machining processes.
  • Work with design and workshop teams to deliver projects on time.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Assist with workshop duties during busy production periods.

The Role

Due to continued growth and investment in new machinery, our client is looking to recruit a CNC Operator to join their workshop team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with CNC machining experience who enjoys working on varied, bespoke projects rather than high-volume production.


Key Responsibilities


  • Set up and operate CNC machinery safely and efficiently

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD files and cutting programmes

  • Produce accurate timber, MDF, plywood and sheet material components

  • Carry out quality checks to ensure work meets required specifications

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good working order

  • Load materials safely and monitor machining processes

  • Work closely with the design and workshop teams to ensure projects are delivered on time

  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment

  • Assist with workshop duties when required during busy production periods


About You


  • Previous experience operating CNC machinery

  • Experience working with timber, MDF or sheet materials is desirable

  • Ability to read technical drawings

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work

  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude

  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Understanding of workshop health and safety procedures

  • Experience with CNC programming software would be advantageous but is not essential
