My client in Birmingham, a privately owned specialist engineering business trading on a global basis, supplies precision machined components to the aerospace, energy, medical, and rail sectors.

Their strength lies in engineering and manufacturing highly complex machined components in a wide range of materials, both hard and soft, utilizing all necessary techniques.

Through growth, they are looking for CNC Operators (Turners or Millers) — either setting/operating or operating as part of their extended growth plans.

Operating - up to £14 p/h

Setting - up to £18 p/h

Job Title: CNC Operator

Reporting to: Technical Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Operating CNC machines to perform turning or milling operations
  • Working on various lathe and milling types, including twin spindle and multi-station machinery (Doosan and DMG) or 3-5 axis Mills
  • (For Setters) Programs are done offline, so mainly reading code; input and support with CAD engineers is welcomed and wanted, so understanding of how machining is being done is beneficial
  • Working on a range of parts from small batches to long runs
  • Preparation and loading of raw materials and parts onto the machines
  • Inspecting and measuring finished products against requirements
  • Checking and maintaining machinery daily to ensure functionality
  • Complying with all Health and Safety regulations and instructions
  • Adhering to relevant standards including ISO 9001 and AS9100

Requirements:

  • Experience as a CNC operator or setter
  • Knowledge of Fanuc, Heidenhain, and Siemens control systems
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and engineering drawings
  • Mechanical aptitude and good mathematical skills
  • Team player with the ability to undertake individual tasks as required
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
