Planet Recruitment in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, is seeking an experienced CNC Miller / Programmer / Setter Operator to join a well‑established engineering business. The role focuses on programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines with Heidenhain controls.

You will work on 3, 4 and 5‑axis machines, reading drawings, and ensuring tight tolerances and high quality. The team values quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines.
• Strong experience with Heidenhain controls.
• Experience with 5-axis milling.
• Ideally 5+ years' experience within CNC machining.
• Experience machining large components up to ~2.5 metres.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of inspection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines.
• Working with 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines.
• Programming directly at the machine using Heidenhain controls.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Setting tooling, workholding and machine parameters.
• Manufacturing large components to tight tolerances.
• Inspecting and measuring your own work for right‑first‑time quality.
• Completing quality documentation and reports.
• Supporting and training other team members as required.
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.
