Portsmouth Aviation Limited is seeking a Skilled CNC Miller / Programmer to join the Machine Shop in Portsmouth. You will work on 3, 4 and 5-axis Mazak milling machines, setting, programming and operating to produce high-precision components for regulated industries.

The role requires at least 5 years' CNC milling experience, reading drawings, selecting tooling, and maintaining quality. The team emphasises accuracy, safety, and working both independently and with colleagues, with an early start

Qualifications

• Strong ability to read engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Experience setting and operating 5-axis CNC machinery.

Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate 3, 4 and 5-axis Mazak milling machines.
• Set and operate CNC 5-axis machinery.
• Produce small batches of complex, precision-engineered components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and machining requirements.
• Select appropriate tooling and machining strategies to achieve required results.
• Inspect components during manufacture and make adjustments where required.
• Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and dimensional standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider Machine Shop team.

About The Role

Portsmouth Aviation Limited is looking for an experienced Skilled CNC Miller / Programmer to join our Machine Shop team in Portsmouth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC Miller with strong experience in setting, programming and operating CNC milling machinery, including 5-axis machining. The successful candidate will enjoy working on complex, high-precision components and small batch production.

The successful candidate will work as part of an experienced Machine Shop team, producing components to exacting quality standards for customers operating across highly regulated and technically demanding industries.

Key Responsibilites:

• Program, set and operate 3, 4 and 5-axis Mazak milling machines.
• Set and operate CNC 5-axis machinery.
• Produce small batches of complex, precision-engineered components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and machining requirements.
• Select appropriate tooling and machining strategies to achieve required results.
• Inspect components during manufacture and make adjustments where required.
• Ensure all work is completed to the required quality and dimensional standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider Machine Shop team.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 5 years' CNC milling experience.
• Proven experience in CNC setting and programming.
• Experience setting and operating 5-axis CNC machinery.
• Experience using Mazak Matrix II and Mazak Smooth control systems.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and machining tolerances.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and use initiative when solving machining problems.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Desirable Experience:

• Haas and Fanuc experience.
• Experience with HyperMill and/or Mastercam CAD/CAM software.
• Training can be provided on CAD/CAM systems to the right candidate.

Working Hours:

37 hours per week:

• Monday to Thursday: 7:30am - 4:00pm
• Friday: 7:30am - 12:30pm

Salary & Benefits:

• £19.90 per hour
