Job summary

Pace XL Ltd. in Cambridge is seeking a CNC Machinist specialising in mill/turn to plan, set up and execute high‑precision machining for defence and aerospace programmes.

This hands‑on role focuses on operating 5‑axis CNC milling centres to produce complex, tight‑tolerance components from titanium, aluminium, stainless steel and other high‑performance alloys, with strict adherence to aerospace quality standards.

Qualifications

• Strong CNC machining experience with a focus on mill/turn.
• Experience in aerospace/defence or similarly regulated industries.
• Able to read complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Solid understanding of tooling, workholding and cutting strategies.
• Experience using precision inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of CNC controls like Siemens, Fanuc or Heidenhain.

• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications including GD&T
• Produce parts to extremely tight tolerances in materials such as titanium, aluminium, stainless steel, and high‑performance alloys
• Ensure machining activities comply with aerospace and defence quality standards and procedures
• Troubleshoot machining issues and support continuous process improvement
• Maintain machine performance through routine checks, maintenance, and good housekeeping

This is a hands‑on manufacturing role, focused on the operation and optimisation of modern 5‑axis CNC machining centres to produce complex, tight‑tolerance components for safety‑critical defence and aerospace systems.

• Ensure all machining activities comply with aerospace and defence quality standards and procedures

Requirements

• Strong CNC machining experience with a focus on mill/turn
• Experience machining for aerospace, defence, motorsport, or similarly regulated industries
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
• Solid understanding of tooling, workholding, and cutting strategies
• Experience using precision inspection equipment
• Working knowledge of CNC controls such as Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain

Preferred Experience / Qualifications

• Experience using or working alongside HyperMill
• Experience across prototype, low‑volume, and higher‑volume precision manufacturing
• Knowledge of AS9100 or aerospace quality systems
• Experience in fast‑paced R&D or startup environments
