Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a CNC Machinist.

  • Full Time Permanent Contract
  • 39 hours per week.
  • Job location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB.
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.

Machining aluminum and alli-lith material to customer specification creating aircraft parts.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating machine/machines and loading various tooling along with materials associated with the various components manufactured on up to at least two machines.
  • Responsible for machining components to specification and customer requirements using detailed drawings and layouts which requires a degree of concentration. Failure to ensure the correct set up of tooling and component may result in poor quality, reprocessing and scrap at a cost to the business.
  • Ensure the tooling being loaded is fit for purpose and it is their responsibility to advise on or change them when necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining the metal working fluid levels and disposing of them as per company guidelines.
  • Requires the setup of the correct tools and components according to approved layouts and to load the correct programme and requires a degree of decision making and judgement in order to produce parts to customer specification and standard. Failure to do so may result in poor quality, reprocessing and scrap at a cost to the business.
  • Responsible for reporting all component / machine non-conformances using the appropriate forms to the Team Leader or Quality Inspector.
  • To be competent in completing new product introduction on machines – proving out (with engineering).
  • To ensure all measuring equipment is calibrated.
  • Verify parts are correct to the job card and processed following customer specifications.
  • Responsible for identifying any failures with parts, completion of NCR forms and escalating to the Line Manager for rectification work.
  • Ensure that processes and procedures are followed to ensure all tasks are performed efficiently and to the required quality standard.
  • Must comply with relevant Environment, Health and Safety legislation and company policies, procedures and safe working systems.
  • The job has responsibility for cross checking that all of the prior operations have been completed prior to commencing this operation.

Position Requirements

Academic:

  • NVQ level 3 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering – CNC Machining or equivalent
  • GCSE or equivalent including Maths & English.

Experience:

  • Must have 1 years’ experience on 3 and 5axis machines.
  • Able to identify components and select the correct tooling/jigging media and carry out a given operation in the routing in compliance with the engineering drawings and to the correct tolerances.
  • Ability to read and understand customer specifications, drawings and visual aids.

Key Competencies:

  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • This role requires you to be able to lift parts on to machine fixture up to 10kg.
