Job summary

A leading aerospace company in the UK is looking for a skilled machinist to work with CNC and manual machines. This role involves programming, setting up, and operating 3 and 5-axis CNC machines, as well as machining high-precision components for spacecraft systems. Ideal candidates should possess City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification, and experience in a high-precision aerospace environment is preferred but training will be provided. This position allows for close collaboration with engineering teams and contributes to exciting space projects.

Qualifications

Reports To

Manufacturing Team Leader

Responsible for

Programming, Setting, and Operating 3 and 5 axis CNC and manual machines.

Key Purpose of Job

• Machining of Composite and Metallic structures and components for spacecraft systems and sub-systems.

Key Tasks

• Working within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaising closely with the Design Office you will have the opportunity to play a part in delivering high quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
• The manufacturing of high precision Composite (Carbon and Metallic) components using 3 and 5-axis CNC Milling Machine.
• CNC off-line programming using Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools.
• Liaise with Project Engineers and other Engineering Teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are achieved.
• Attend engineering Peer Reviews to ensure design for manufacture methodology observed.
• Attend regular team meetings.
• There will be occasions when Manual Machining operations will need to be performed.
• Other activities as delegated by Manufacturing Team Leader.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or having undertaken a recognised Apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
• Good educational background.

Experience

• Ideally from a machining or similar background.
• Experience of machining components in a High Precision, High Value, and Low Volume environment, ideally Aerospace.
• CNC Off-Line Programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential, as training will be provided.
