Job summary

Actio Recruitment is seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join an aerospace engineering business in Rochford, Essex. The role focuses on setting and operating CNC machines and learning centreless grinding within a precision engineering environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a precision engineering setting, reading engineering drawings, and working with aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel, with tight tolerances and micrometre measurements.

Qualifications

• Experience as CNC Setter/Operator in a precision engineering environment.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience desirable.
• Able to read engineering drawings and interpret tolerances.
• Experience with aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel.
• Willing to learn centreless grinding and develop new skills.
• Reliable, quality‑focused and a strong team player.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC machines and second‑operation equipment.
• Learn and develop centreless grinding as part of daily role.
• Operate grinders, drill banks, markers, deburring equipment, and torque testers.
• Carry out first‑off inspections and in‑process quality checks.
• Read engineering drawings and manufacture components to tight tolerances.
• Use micrometres and precision measuring equipment.
• Help minimise scrap and improve production efficiency.
• Complete daily maintenance and production documentation.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.
• Work in line with aerospace quality standards and health & safety procedures.

Skilled Machinist / CNC Setter & Operator - Aerospace Engineering

Location: Rochford, Essex
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:45am - 4:30pm (37‑hour week)

Looking to take the next step in your CNC engineering career? We have an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join a well‑established aerospace manufacturing business in Rochford. This role is ideal for an experienced machinist who is keen to expand their skillset by learning centreless grinding while working within a precision engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC machines and a range of second‑operation equipment.
• Learn and develop skills in centreless grinding as part of your daily role.
• Operate equipment including grinders, drill banks, part markers, deburring equipment, depitching presses and torque testers.
• Carry out first‑off inspections and in‑process quality checks.
• Read engineering drawings and manufacture components to 0.5 tolerances.
• Confidently use micrometres and precision measuring equipment.
• Help minimise scrap and improve production efficiency.
• Complete daily maintenance and production documentation.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.
• Work in line with aerospace quality standards and health & safety procedures.

About You

• Skilled CNC Setter/Operator with experience in a precision engineering environment.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
• Willing to learn centreless grinding and develop new machining skills.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experienced working with aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel.
• Confident working to tight tolerances and using micrometres.
• Experience with grinding or thread rolling would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Reliable, quality‑focused and a strong team player with excellent attention to detail.
