Job summary

Unipart Technologies Group is seeking a skilled CMM Programmer to develop, implement, and maintain PC-DMIS programs for automotive components. You will use FARO arms and PowerInspect for on-machine inspections, supporting NPI, production, and continuous improvement in a high-volume manufacturing setting.

Key requirements include deep GD&T knowledge, ISO/ASME drawing standards, and PPAP-related activities. A technical metrology background and hands-on CMM experience are essential for success in

Qualifications

  • Measuring and reporting dimensional matters on complex injection-moulded or metallic components as required by quality management system and client specifications.
  • In depth knowledge of GD&T and recognised drawing standards (ISO 1101, ASME Y 14.5, BS 8888).
  • Programming and operating CNC CMM using PC-DMIS (essential).
  • Experience using measurement arms such as FARO (desirable).
  • Interfacing directly with customers in discussions around measurement data (if required).
  • Experience as a CMM Programmer within a high-volume manufacturing environment (Automotive industry highly preferred).
  • Familiarity with PPAP, APQP and IATF 16949 or ISO 9001.

  • Programming and operating CNC CMM machines using PC-DMIS software to validate component/tooling manufacture.
  • Performing all necessary measurement activities to support PPAP activities (ISIR, MSA and Capability studies).
  • Reviewing, interpreting and communicating inspection results to support development and production teams.
  • Supporting patrol inspection team with first off & last off processes utilising CMM or mechanical measurement techniques.
  • Supporting new product introduction teams with drawing, fixture and measurement reviews to ensure achievable and accurate production.
  • Flexibility to carry out other duties required in line with business needs.

Job description

Up to £39,000 per annum DOE, plus 33 days holiday (including bank holidays), paid lunch break, pension, life assurance, employee assistance programme, wellbeing support, and flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme

Please note that the working pattern is 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.

Overall Purpose of Job

The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs to ensure all automotive components meet strict dimensional, tolerance, and quality specifications. Utilizing PC-DMIS, you will support production, engineering, and new product introduction (NPI) by providing precise metrology data. Additionally, you will leverage FARO Arm portable metrology solutions to perform on-machine and in-process inspections, driving continuous improvement and zero-defect initiatives across the manufacturing facility.

  • Programming and operating CNC CMM machines using PC-DMIS software to validate component/tooling manufacture

  • Reviewing, interpreting and communicating inspection results to support development and production teams in the decision making of changes required to ensure the accurate manufacture of components
  • Supporting patrol inspection team with first off & last off processes utilising CMM or mechanical measurement techniques (Vernier, Micrometer, DTI, shadowgraph etc.)
  • Supporting new product introduction teams with drawing, fixture and measurement reviews to ensure achievable and accurate production
  • Flexibility to carry out other duties required in line within business needs
About You

  • Measuring and reporting dimensional matters on complex injection-moulded or metallic components as required by quality management system and client specifications
  • In depth and extensive knowledge of GD&T and recognised drawing standards (ISO 1101, ASME Y 14.5, BS 8888)
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Programming and operating CNC CMM using PC DMIS (essential)
  • Experience using measurement arms such as FARO (desirable)
  • Providing advice and support to staff and clients on all measurement matters
  • ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2009 or AS9100D quality management systems
  • Working with capability studies, Gauge R&R, MSA & SPC
  • Working with automotive quality requirements and PPAP
  • Interfacing directly with customers in discussions around measurement data (if required)
  • Experience: Experience as a CMM Programmer within a high-volume manufacturing environment (Automotive industry highly preferred).
  • Software Mastery: Proven, hands‑on expertise in advanced programming with PC-DMIS (including CAD/CAD++ modules).
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with automotive quality standards, specifically PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), APQP, and IATF 16949 or ISO 9001.
  • Portable Metrology: Direct experience operating FARO Arms (or similar portable CMMs) utilizing PowerInspect software.
  • Education: Technical degree or certifications in Precision Measurement, Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Statistical Skills: Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) software and data analysis.
