Job summary

Viasat in the United Kingdom is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to bridge development and operations. You will support the SAS group applications, manage deployments, and drive a modern DevOps culture.

You will work with Python scripting, containerised workloads on AWS, and observability tools to ensure service health and performance. Collaboration with developers and operations is essential for incident triage and post-mortems.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems, including command-line administration.
• Solid experience with SQL or data pipeline technologies.
• Experience with data processing frameworks such as Apache Airflow, Apache Flink or Google Dataflow for ETL pipelines.
• CI/CD experience — Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions or equivalent.
• Hands-on AWS services (EC2, S3, ECS, Lambda, CloudWatch) and Docker.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools like Prometheus and CloudWatch.
• Python scripting for automation and tooling.
• Strong communication to explain technical issues to varied audiences.
• Experience with ITSM/ticketing systems (ServiceNow).

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve incidents via the ServiceNow ticketing system.
• Manage deployments across development, staging and production environments.
• Monitor application/infrastructure health using Prometheus and CloudWatch.
• Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines and improve automation.
• Promote DevOps practices within the SAS group.
• Manage containerised workloads with Docker on AWS.
• Write Python scripts to automate tasks and investigations.
• Collaborate with developers to improve application resilience.
• Maintain runbooks, deployment guides, and post-mortems.
• Provide progress updates on incidents and deployments.
• Support on-call incident response and cross-team communication.
• Coordinate system changes with engineering and infra teams.
