Cloud Solutions Architect - Alliances, London

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include major public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders across sectors. We are a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with teams in over 70 countries, meeting in person a few times a year in interesting locations worldwide.

We are a founder-led, profitable, and growing company. We are hiring a Cloud Solutions Architect in our Alliances team to support our key partners (e.g., Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata) in understanding and adopting our open source platform for their own use and for their customers.

Our field engineering team applies expert insights to customer problems, enabling enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps, and related technologies. We are experts across the open source stack, from kernel to desktop, cloud to edge. We also focus on business problems—building reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions—and strive to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

We assist global companies in embracing public/private cloud infrastructure, cloud-native operations, and open source applications. For this role, we seek several Alliances Engineers to support OEMs, GSIs, ISVs, channel partners, and public cloud alliance partners. You will help partners adopt Canonical’s products and technologies, and assist business leaders in defining joint go-to-market strategies from a technical perspective.

Our field engineers are known for their challenging role, as they must answer any technical question about our solutions thoughtfully and accurately. We prioritize doing the best for our partners and customers, trusting our engineers to uphold this standard.

Location: This is a home-based role, open worldwide.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Understanding Ubuntu, Linux, networking, and services in real-world environments
  • Architecting cloud solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark on-premises or in public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Architecting and integrating open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra, and NGINX
  • Assisting partners in developing joint solutions using Canonical’s technologies in cloud and data centers
  • Designing and publishing reference architectures and conducting technical validations with partners
  • Conducting onboarding sessions and workshops to promote Canonical products

If you are passionate about open source, cloud-native development, Kubernetes, and networking, you will thrive as an Alliances Architect at Canonical.

Candidate requirements:

  • Extensive Linux (Ubuntu preferred), Kubernetes, Ceph, and automation experience
  • Experience designing solutions on public/private clouds
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash, troubleshooting skills
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Motivated, reliable, able to multitask
  • Customer engagement interest, including pitching and understanding customer environments
  • Interest in technologies like LXD, Juju, and Snaps
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% globally
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field

  • Distributed work environment with biannual in-person team sprints
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 annually
