Rayo, part of the UBDS group, is seeking a Cloud Solution Architect with deep expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to lead architectural design and technical strategy across complex, secure cloud environments. This role involves ensuring robust, scalable, and secure solutions are delivered in line with the AWS Well-Architected Framework and client objectives. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, the ability to engage senior stakeholders, and a mindset for continuous improvement and innovation.

This position is suited to experienced architects who can operate across both delivery and strategic advisory domains, particularly in regulated or public sector settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and review cloud architectures using AWS best practices, ensuring alignment with client goals and compliance frameworks.
  • Provide technical leadership across project lifecycles, from inception to deployment.
  • Lead architecture governance, including assurance reviews and architectural decision records.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, including automation, AI integration, and cloud cost optimisation.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to shape cloud strategies and technical roadmaps.
  • Lead architecture and discovery workshops with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of architectural standards and reusable patterns.
  • Ensure designs meet security and compliance requirements, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 20000, ISO 22301, and Cyber Essentials Plus.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams to guide implementation and maintain architectural integrity.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing and reviewing AWS solutions using the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS services across compute, storage, networking, identity, and security.
  • Proven ability to operate in multi-account AWS environments with security-first design principles.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience presenting to technical and business audiences.
  • Familiarity with governance and compliance within regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in architectural decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud solution architecture roles, with emphasis on AWS.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional.
  • Experience working within public sector or national security contexts.
  • Exposure to innovative technologies including machine learning and automation tooling.
