Job description

As part of Nationwide’s exciting and growing team of Cloud Platform engineers, you’ll have a SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) mindset with the ability to act like a Developer and think like a Systems Operator. We invest in our people to ensure we create multi-functional engineers and retain the skills within the organisation. Our engineers are responsible for the delivery of Cloud technical solutions for assigned missions alongside providing consultancy and support services as required. As part of the Cloud Operations team, we are looking for talented people to help us achieve our goals.

What you’ll be doing

As a core member of the Cloud Platform Operations team responsible for the reliability, availability and performance of our cloud platforms and services that underpin Nationwide.

You will:

  • Have good Service Management knowledge and experience to ensure incidents are managed within SLA and changes are implemented successfully first time.
  • Have strong stakeholder management skills, understanding requirements to ensure the solution is understood technically and implemented within existing guardrails.
  • Implement network changes for our consumers, familiarity in Palo Alto technologies beneficial.
  • Take the charge in building and managing scalable, self-healing, globally distributed cloud platforms.
  • Drive efficiency, automation, and cost reduction by automating manual and repetitive tasks.
  • Develop features and codified artefacts for platform improvements leveraging automation and infrastructure as code.
  • Provide technical expertise throughout all stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Create and adhere to standards and provide governance to contribute to process improvement.
  • Identify and escalate dependencies, risks and exceptions that will affect implementation of technical artefacts.
  • Share knowledge with peers to contribute to the skills growth of knowledge within Cloud Platform Operations.
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, engineering teams and the wider Engineering Centre of Excellence to ensure seamless integration of solutions within our infrastructure.
About you

We are seeking an E2 Engineer (Cloud Platform Engineer) with a strong foundation in Cloud Platforms and a passion for problem-solving.

Skilled Cloud Platform Engineers that can demonstrate hands-on or Non-Cloud transferable experience to support our 4c’s (Cloud, Containerisation, Coding, CI/CD). This includes:

  • Experienced designing and implementing Cloud platforms (AWS) for elasticity and scalability.
  • Infrastructure as code and post deployment configuration management knowledge using tools such as Terraform, Ansible. While expertise in these tools is not mandatory, familiarity is preferred.
  • Skilled automating the deployment and monitoring of services in Public Cloud.
  • Implementing changes/improvements to production services, ensuring service uptime.
  • In depth expertise in system administration including configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Deep understanding of IAM roles and policies.
  • Experienced with database and replication methodologies.
  • Experience with distributed systems design, maintenance, disaster recovery, updates required.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, particularly AWS (VPC's/Security Groups/NACLs/AWS Network Firewall), and hybrid environments is preferred.
  • Public Cloud certifications
