Job summary

Actian in the United Kingdom is seeking a Software Architect to design the structure of our cloud platform and make it efficient, easy to extend, maintain and operate.

You will drive cloud platform design across AWS, Azure, or GCP, focusing on stability, cost control, and ease of use for developers while defining standards and security practices. This role requires proactive leadership and hands-on architecture work.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Software Architect or Principal Engineer working with cloud SaaS products.
• Key experience with microservices, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and messaging systems.
• Proactive mindset: identify failure points or overspending and propose solutions.
• Developer-focused: create tools and APIs that reduce friction for internal developers.
• Excellent English skills (written and spoken) to explain complex technical problems clearly.

Responsibilities

• Cloud Platform Design: design and improve cloud structure (AWS, Azure, GCP) for multi-client support.
• Stability & Fault Tolerance: build systems that recover automatically and stay up in production.
• Make Life Easy for Developers: provide clear APIs, templates, and common tools.
• Cloud Cost Control: monitor and optimize cloud resources to control costs.
• Improving Legacy Code: identify aged components and plan improvements without disrupting daily work.
• Technical Guidance & Standards: establish standards and review designs to avoid bottlenecks.
• Security by Design: integrate security considerations from the start.
• System Monitoring: define metrics to detect and diagnose failures quickly.
• Testing New Technologies: prototype and evaluate new tools before adoption.
