Role Overview

As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing Sage's cloud infrastructure. Working in a true DevOps capacity, you'll collaborate closely with product delivery teams to deploy, monitor, and improve services that support millions of users globally. This is a 24/7 operation, requiring participation in an on‑call rota to respond to incidents and ensure high system availability.

Responsibilities
  • DevOps Collaboration: work closely with development teams supporting CI/CD, monitoring, and automation.
  • Continuous Improvement: research new technologies and services to improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
  • Automation & Efficiency: build infrastructure as code, automate manual processes, and contribute to self‑healing systems.
  • Cross‑Functional Coordination: collaborate with Security, Architecture, and Automation SMEs to align infrastructure with business and technical standards.
  • Incident Response: take the lead during high‑pressure incidents, balancing technical resolution with clear stakeholder communication.
  • Monitoring & Performance: proactively monitor systems to prevent customer impact and optimize performance at scale.
  • Infrastructure Management: migrate current‑generation products from data centres to AWS, re‑commissioning them into modern cloud environments.
Qualifications
  • Operational Experience: proven experience managing cloud‑based systems, including transactional databases.
  • Cloud Expertise: hands‑on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS); other cloud platforms also considered.
  • Certification: industry‑recognised qualification or certification in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer).
  • Development & Automation: experience in software development or automation, with scripting and infrastructure as code.
  • Monitoring & Incident Response: ability to proactively monitor systems and lead resolution during high‑pressure incidents.
  • Communication Skills: comfortable working with European colleagues, particularly in France and Germany; fluent in English.
  • Organisational Skills: ability to navigate a large, complex organisation with diverse product suites and development practices.
