Job summary

British Business Bank plc is seeking a Cloud DevOps Engineer to optimise a hybrid cloud estate predominantly on Microsoft Azure. You will shape reliable, secure, cost-aware services across SaaS/IaaS/PaaS, with a focus on automation, observability and resilient operations.

The role requires hands-on cloud engineering, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD expertise. Occasional office attendance two days a week is expected, with flexible hours and generous leave benefits.

THE ROLE

As a Cloud DevOps Engineer at the British Business Bank, you will help shape reliable, secure and cost-effective technology services that support our organisation and its purpose. This is hands‑on engineering role focussed on modern DevOps practices across the full lifecycle of infrastructure management.

Working within Platform Engineering, you will help manage day to day operation and improve our hybrid technology estate, with a particular focus on Microsoft Azure. You will oversee operations across SaaS, IaaS and PaaS services, maintaining Azure networking, compute, storage and platform capabilities. You will also support our on-premises Windows and Linux Server estate, virtualisation platforms and maintaining wider hybrid operating model.

You will create practical, scalable solutions using Infrastructure as Code, Terraform and automation scripting, while maintaining CI/CD pipelines through Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.

Your work will include designing and testing backup and disaster recovery arrangements, maintaining monitoring and observability tools, and responding thoughtfully to incidents. You will collaborate with engineering, security and operations colleagues to identify root causes, improve services and embed DevSecOps practices.

You will bring strong Azure engineering experience across infrastructure, platform services, identity and security, alongside extensive knowledge of Terraform, CI/CD, cloud governance, FinOps and the Azure Well-Architected Framework. Experience of cloud migration, modernisation and regulated environments would also be valuable. Relevant professional certifications or demonstrable equivalent experience will help you succeed in this role.
