Job summary

THG Ingenuity is seeking a Database Engineer to run and improve our database platform at Manchester head office. You will work in a small team, focusing on secure, reliable, and performant PostgreSQL and SQL Server environments, including cloud and on‑prem components.

The role involves modernisation, automation, and incident response, with rotating on‑call duties and occasional out‑of‑hours work to support deployments and maintenance.

Qualifications

• PostgreSQL, SQL Server production administration including upgrades, backups and replication.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and query plans with performance considerations.
• Experience deploying and managing database infra in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Understanding HA/DR architectures and disaster recovery in production.
• Scripting to automate tasks and manage changes in CI/CD environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain and upgrade PostgreSQL and SQL Server across dev, test and prod.
• Ensure secure, patched and compliant database servers.
• Own backup, restore and maintenance strategies, and test recovery procedures.
• Deploy and manage database environments in GCP and hybrid on-prem, with proper networking and security.
