Job description

Are you a Cloud Automation expert interested in working for a Great Place To Work (GPTW) Certified organisation?

Sopra Steria are currently on the hunt for a versatile Automation expert with a solid working knowledge of industry standard public cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud, MS Azure and AWS. As a Cloud Automation & Optimisation Engineer will lead the build, implementation and refinement of advanced automation and optimisation solutions to enhance operational efficiency and resource utilisation. This is a highly technical role and requires you to have an in depth understanding in various cloud services but also automation frameworks including Ansible and Terraform. AS a key member of the technical team, the role encompasses planning, technical leadership and mentoring.

This role will be predominantly based from home with very occasional travel to one of our offices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the identification and execution of optimisation projects to improve cloud resource utilisation and reduce operational costs.
  • Build and implement extensive cloud automation strategies to elevate system reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough analysis to uncover both complex automation opportunities and straightforward optimisation wins, utilising Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and IT Automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure automation and optimisation initiatives align with business goals and comply with security standards, especially for UK Public Sector accounts.

What you’ll bring:

  • Expertise in cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, OCI) with a proven history of implementing scalable cloud infrastructure automation and optimisation solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform, with the capability to develop complex scripts and frameworks.
  • Experience in leading and delivering significant automation and optimisation projects.
  • Whilst this role will not have line management responsibilities initially it does require excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of mentoring team members and leading by example.

It would be great if you had:

  • Proficiency in containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for efficient application deployment and management.
