Job description

About the role

The Sample Handling Laboratory in the Cancer and Haematology Centre, Churchill Hospital, Oxford processes patient samples from cancer clinical trials. The role of the post holder is to take receipt of and process clinical samples according to defined laboratory protocols. This will involve several techniques including centrifugation of blood samples, separation of plasma/serum and also of white cells for analysis at other laboratories.

This is a full-time post available on a 2-year fixed term contract.

About you

You should be educated to A-level standard or equivalent and have good manual dexterity, accuracy and laboratory experience. An ability to communicate well both written and verbally and to work within a team are essential. Some flexible working will be required. Experience of working in a regulatory environment will be an advantage but specific in-house training will be provided.

You will be required to apply for and obtain an NHS Honorary Contract to undertake this role.

The normal working hours of the lab are 8.30am to 5.30pm. Staff will start and finish at staggered times to cover these hours on a flexible rota. Occasional out of hours late sample processing is required (up to 10pm).
