Job summary

A regional healthcare provider in Bradford is seeking an administrative assistant for the YorQuit study. There are 2 posts available at band 3 for a period of 23 months to support the delivery of National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) standard smoking cessation support to participants of the YorQuit study. The YorQuit study is a multi-centre randomised controlled trial that seeks to test the acceptability and effectiveness of different approaches to providing stop smoking support to patients attending for lung health checks in Bradford, Hull and Leeds. Funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, the study is led by Professor Rachael Murray from the University of Nottingham and Professor Matthew Callister from Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.

Main duties of the job

Your primary responsibilities will be to provide administrative support to the study, helping to identify and recruit study participants. You will need to use initiative, work independently and will be expected to undertake a full range of clerical duties to support the Yorquit Project. Job responsibilities

Maintain efficient filing systems.

Take informed consent from study participants

Receiving and appropriately acting on telephone messages as necessary in a polite and helpful manner.

Liaise with staff, clients and patients as appropriate in matters of research.

Performing administrative duties including supervised data collection on both database and patient records.

To assist in the evaluation of patient eligibility, in liaison with other appropriate health care professionals for clinical trial entry, involving the co-ordination of identification of potential stuidy participants, contacting them to discuss the study.

Maintain accurate patient records, disposing of confidential information appropriately.

Assist the project team in the preparation for audit and monitoring visits.

Work in accordance with study standard operating procedures and Trust Policies and procedures.

Deliver very brief advice to stop smoking over the telephone to all potential study participants.

Liaise with the smoking cessation practitioners employed to the study and study participants to organise the collection of carbon monoxide readings.

Upkeep of trial equipment

Maintain investigator site files, this involves ensuring CVs and training are fully up to date for all staff and all the files are kept in good order including insurance certificates and delegation logs.

Work flexibly to provide continuity of service and meet service needs

To continue to develop skills in and knowledge of stop smoking interventions, particularly for smokers aged over 55.

Any duties appropriate to the grade and level of the post, assisting with other tasks as directed by the Lead Lung Nurse.
