Job description

The Research Nurse/Clinical Trials Practitioner is an autonomous specialist working within a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of a clinical research portfolio, including in-house, national, and international phase II and III clinical trials in oncology malignancies.

Responsibilities include educating patients and colleagues, coordinating patient care on trials, collecting and preparing biological samples, gathering trial data, and monitoring side effects of treatments. The post holder will develop specialized skills related to clinical trials, therapies, and disease sites, and will assist patients in making informed decisions about trial participation by providing advice and acting as their advocate.

This role is clinically based to support research in Gastrointestinal Oncology, with cross-coverage for other tumour areas.

Research Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and conduct in-house, commercial, and non-commercial national and international phase I, II, and III clinical trials.
  • Create and maintain protocol files and patient information sheets/consent forms.
  • Ensure documentation of trial data complies with ICH GCP guidelines.
  • Critically appraise research protocols.
  • Complete trial case report forms in accordance with ICH GCP guidelines and within designated timelines.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs across the healthcare continuum.
  • Coordinate and monitor patient care during clinical trials:
  • Identify potential trial participants.
  • Evaluate eligibility.
  • Ensure all pre-study tests are completed and results are obtained.
  • Act as a patient advocate and assist with informed consent processes.
