Job description

The Research Nurse/Clinical Trials Practitioner is an autonomous specialist working within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of a clinical research portfolio comprising in-house, national, and international phase II and III clinical trials in oncology and haematology malignancies.

Responsibilities will include:

1. Education of patients and colleagues
2. Coordination of care for patients on trials
3. Collection and preparation of biological samples
4. Collection of trial data
5. Monitoring side effects of drugs and treatments

The post holder will develop specialized skills related to clinical trials, therapies, and disease sites, and will be able to advise patients on trial participation, acting as their advocate.

The role is clinically based to support research in Proton Beam Therapy and Neuro-Oncology, with cross coverage for other tumor areas.

Research Responsibilities

• Applying critical appraisal skills to evaluate research protocols
• Assisting in database development and maintenance
• Consulting with investigators, research organizations, and industry
• Understanding preclinical data and rationale for testing investigational agents
• Ensuring case report forms comply with ICH GCP guidelines

Clinical Responsibilities

• Working autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Participating in identifying potential trial patients
• Ensuring pre-study tests are completed
• Acting as patient advocate and assisting with informed consent
• Registering and randomizing patients
• Participating in treatment decisions per protocol
• Providing direct patient care within the trial scope
• Collecting and preparing biological samples
