Job description

Medical Engineering Technician

The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) provides scientific, engineering, managerial, and financial advice to local healthcare organizations on the correct operation and use of modern medical technologies.

The post holder will primarily undertake repair, calibration, and planned maintenance of a wide range of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment within the RUH Trust and other healthcare facilities in the area. This ensures equipment operates effectively and safely with minimal downtime. Clinical equipment includes electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer software, and medical gas systems. The post holder must adhere to high safety and accountability standards.

This role supports clinical care across hospitals in primary, community, and acute healthcare sectors. The post is part of a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers responsible for a variety of clinical equipment. The quality of the post holder's work is essential to delivering high-technology healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform planned maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a broad range of medical devices across the Royal United Hospital and local healthcare services.
  2. Work may be carried out in the MEMS workshop, on hospital wards, in patient areas, or in other healthcare premises with service agreements. Travel between sites using the MEMS van may be required.
  3. Occasional early or late working may be necessary to meet clinical and logistical demands.
  4. Maintain a full manual UK driving license.
  5. Plan personal workload and use initiative to ensure equipment functions as specified with minimal disruption to patient services.
  6. Support general MEMS workshop duties and assist senior technologists or workshop managers as needed.
