Job description

12 month secondment opportunity (maternity cover) to operationally lead and deliver the Voice service to outpatients (adults and children) with clinical voice disorders.

This is an ideal opportunity to develop a leadership portfolio and an experienced band 6 with relevant skills looking to grow their experience, are welcome to apply. Experience of working with upper airways conditions (e.g., chronic cough, laryngeal hypersensitivity, inducible laryngeal obstruction and Long COVID) is desirable alongside underpinning knowledge of neurology.

The well-established model of an 'ENT SLT' service at ELHT means that there may be the opportunity for the successful applicant to clinically contribute to Head & Neck and FEES services where appropriate and according to competencies and experience.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide clinical leadership and service development within Clinical Voice Disorders and ENT.
  • To provide clinical services to adults and children with acquired voice, communication and/or swallowing problems.
  • To use evidence-based, highly specialist skills to undertake expert assessments and deliver appropriate interventions to complex clinical caseload.
  • To provide input into teaching, training and supporting junior staff if required
  • To engage and continue to be an active member of the wider ENT multi-disciplinary team.

The service is well equipped and is supported by a team of administrators, SLT Assistants and Therapy Assistant Practitioners. Regular team meetings, an annual SLT Showcase of best practice and SLT, Stroke and Neuro Improvement Showcase.Continual improvement is embedded in our daily work and service improvement initiatives.We are committed to continuing professional development and this is underpinned by supervision, regular line management and an annual appraisal system.

  • Due to this post being a 12month fixed term contract and a recognition that elements of this specialist role can be delivered remotely we would welcome applicants looking for part time hours and agile working (on site and at home).

  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical service area
  • Involvement in Special Clinical Interest Group

Experience
  • Significant post graduate experience, including experience in a relevant specialist role
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the management of highly complex patients within clinical area
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team and wider system partners
  • Experience of leading service change and quality improvement projects for safe, personal, and effective care
  • Clinical supervision, including formal appraisal and objective setting
  • Experience of formal presentations including presenting to MDT, leadership, and clinical teams.
  • Committee membership e.g., Safety Committee
Knowledge
  • In depth knowledge of local and national NHS/Social Care agenda and its relevance to service area
  • In depth knowledge of national policy, clinical practice standards and guidelines relevant to service area
