Clinical Teaching Fellow Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Job summary
The post offers an exciting opportunity to receive training in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including undertaking a fully funded Certificate in Clinical Education at the University of Plymouth.

Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD) has been praised by the GMC for its innovative approach to undergraduate medical education. The curriculum is based around problem-based learning and is highly ranked by graduates for its effectiveness in preparing students for postgraduate medicine. Your role will involve engaging with undergraduate education in both hospital and academic settings, contributing to the training of future doctors and healthcare professionals.

Duties include caring for inpatients and outpatients, teaching medical students and the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The role also involves non-teaching commitments in gynaecology and obstetrics.

Annual and study leave will be scheduled around your teaching commitments, with protected time allocated weekly for PG Certificate study. As part of the resident doctor team, you will participate in educational activities and contribute to teaching nurses, midwives, and junior doctors.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is for a clinical teaching fellow to facilitate the delivery of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology components of the 3rd and 4th year medical school programme. The successful candidate will receive training in undergraduate medical education and undertake a fully funded Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Plymouth. The remaining time will focus on personal education and clinical experience at the SHO level. This post is jointly funded by UHP and PUPSMD.

There will be no on-call duties. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. Some experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology post-medical school is preferred. Completion of Foundation jobs (F1 and F2) is essential. The position is for 1 year, starting from 6th August 2025.
