About the Role

Applications are sought for the role of Clinical Teaching Fellow within the surgical simulation unit in Barts Cancer Institute (BCI), Queen Mary University of London. The Clinical Teaching Fellow will support Prof. Bijendra Patel to deliver the MSc Laparoscopic Surgery and Surgical Skills (LSSS) programme, including delivery of lectures and the various surgical practical modules using the surgical simulators, and the provision of student support for these clinically qualified students.

About You

  • We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is currently at ST1/2- ST8 training stagewith a MRCS/FRCS and completed minimum of 2 years of core surgical training.
  • Essential requirements for this post include successful completion of Royal College of Surgeons Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery course or an equivalent course.
  • Relevant teaching experience in laparoscopic surgery including eLearning or technology enhanced education would be an advantage. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

The BCI is part of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) City of London Centre whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research, and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists. The surgical simulation unit in Barts, is internationally renowned in many areas of surgical simulation and technology enhanced education. In 2005 Professor Bijendra Patel launched the world's first Master's course in acquiring surgical skills by virtual reality simulation to "Globalise and Fast-Track Surgical Training.

The post is based at Charterhouse Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 12 months The start date is expected to be from August 2025 with a salary offering of £49,909 - £70,425 per annum in accordance with the successful candidates current stage of NHS training.
