We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow. This a new post designed to support the delivery of the UCLan MBBS undergraduate programme within the Medical Education Department of NCIC.
Time will also be allocated for administration and preparation associated with educational activity.
Whilst the post is not principally designed to provide clinical service it is anticipated that the appointee will wish to continue to practise clinically whilst in post and at least one day a week of clinical activity would be expected to be undertaken in order to maintain skills and support continued professional development`.
Although employed by the trust/s the post holder would be expected to hold an honorary academic post (appropriate to their clinical seniority) in the UCLan School of Medicine. The post holder will also be offered the opportunity to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or an appropriate equivalent qualification) with UCLan.
This post is offered as a full-time position, however, applications will be considered from candidates who for personal reasons wish to work less than full-time.
The post will be based at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. Some work at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle may also be required.
Full registration with the GMC with postgraduate clinical experience are minimum requirements for this post. Completion of UK foundation training and experience working within the NHS would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
1. To plan, prepare and deliver small group teaching and bedside teaching during students' clinical placements within the trust, including recruitment of patients for teaching, teaching of history and examination skills, and delivery of clinical tutorials.
2. To take responsibility for academic administration in relation to specified teaching activity.
3. To act as an Educational Supervisor to students, including review and assessment of the student e-portfolio.
4. To participate in assessment activities including OSCEs, DOPS, mini-CEX, coursework and e-portfolio.
5. As part of the wider team, to support teaching and learning strategies and to engage in development activity within the undergraduate teaching programme.
6. To work productively as part of a team by participating actively in medical education team meetings.
7. To engage, in conjunction with the Undergraduate Tutor and ADME in review and evaluation of teaching in response to feedback.
8. To undertake any training required for / relevant to the role.
9. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, as directed by the ADME.
10. To undertake clinical duties under consultant supervision to allow maintenance of skills and support professional development.
