The Emergency Department team adopts a holistic approach to care and quality improvement. We promote patient centred care, patient safety and service improvements are at the forefront of our philosophy. We seek to recruit staff who are motivated, promote high standards of patient care and work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Our ideal candidate will have acute care experience and bring with them ideas to help us develop our department, however we also offer a bespoke induction programme.

Main duties of the job

To provide support to the multi professional team, by undertaking appropriate duties following assessment and planning of requirements by the registered nurse. Additionally, to provide support by undertaking non nursing and ancillary duties.

Job Description

Job responsibilities
  1. Maintains effective communication and good relationships with children, parents, carers, relatives and staff.
  2. Accept delegated duties within parameters of capabilities and competencies.
  3. Complete documentation in accordance with Trust policy.
  4. Participate in programmes of in-service training as required.
  5. Chaperoning of children during medical examinations.
  6. Maintain a standard of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence and promote the profile of health care employees.
  7. Contribute to the prevention and management of untoward occurrences by responding to emergencies, summoning appropriate assistance, reassurance until qualified staff available, maintenance of privacy/dignity/confidentiality, maintenance of a safe working environment.
  8. Clerical duties associated with the efficient management of the paediatric service including answering the telephone and relaying messages.
  9. Checking and maintaining stock levels.
  10. General house keeping duties.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
  • Level 3 in appropriate subject (or on pathway) or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills level 2 or grade 4 or above in English and maths.

Desirable
  • Working within an acute setting.
  • NVQ level 2 childcare.
  • A level Health and social care.

Experience Essential
  • Recent relevant experience in acute care.

Knowledge Essential
  • Ability to assess, plan deliver and evaluate quality care.
  • Ability to meet basic care needs.
  • Ability to escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
