Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Be U Swindon Mental Health Support Team for a full-time Clinical Supervisor and Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner to increase the service's supervision capacity. Under expert supervision and as part of a dynamic and evolving mental health support team, the successful post-holder will supervise, develop, and support Education Mental Health Practitioners/Children's Wellbeing Practitioners to provide guided self-help, low intensity, brief, evidence-based CBT and to deliver groups and Whole School Approach Interventions. The role will also involve highlighting areas of need within the team and helping to develop the service and create quality improvement plans supported by, and in conjunction with, senior colleagues. The post holder will also hold a small caseload of 6-8 in agreement with their supervisor and some line management responsibility will be required.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work co-operatively with other professionals in children's services, health agencies and other community-based services, including managing relationships with schools and attendance of internal and external meetings.
  2. To attend and contribute to relevant meetings as identified by management.
  3. To monitor the waiting list for a cluster team of schools and to allocate referrals via agreed protocols within the service, with support and oversight from the Senior Management Team.
  4. To advise on and/or lead practice in areas of service-and cluster specialism.
  5. To develop and evaluate existing and new areas of specialism within the service, including care record audits, school audits, participation.
  6. To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and to report as necessary. To keep up to date with safeguarding policies and procedures within ABL Health, schools and Swindon Borough Council.

Job description

Clinical Responsibilities

  1. To be trained and confident in the use of CYP IAPT Principles, evidence-based interventions and routine outcome measures.
  2. To provide regular Case Management and Clinical Skills Supervision to qualified and trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners and Children's Wellbeing Practitioners in service.
  3. To support EMHPs/CWPs to deliver Whole School Approach work (audits of Whole School Approach, delivery of workshops, groups and work to promote positive mental wellbeing in the educational settings in collaboration with the Whole School Approach Team.
  4. To offer clinical assessments and LICBT interventions to children and young people in the MHST locality of Swindon, including working with those with more complex presentations as required.
  5. To provide signposting and self-help advice, or refer onto other services, where referrals are not appropriate for the MHST provision.
  6. To complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
  7. To keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service operational policies and processes.
  8. To support clinicians to adhere to an agreed number of contacts and clinical sessions carried out per week, to minimise waiting times and to ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and child-centred.
  9. To support EMHPs / trainee EMHPs using role modelling to assess and support children and young people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.
  10. Identify training needs across the team and assist in the development of routes for CPD.
  11. To offer training sessions as appropriate and to attend training appropriate to the work role.
  12. To contribute to the development of best practice within the Mental Health Support Team.

  6. Participate in individual performance/appraisal review and work towards agreed objectives.
  7. To participate regularly in the agreed systems for supervision.
  8. Keep all records up to date in relation to Continuous Professional Development and the requirements of the post and ensure personal development plans maintain up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.
  9. Attend relevant educational opportunities in line with identified professional objectives.
  10. To communicate in ways that recognise difference and to ensure that others feel included according to needs of recipient(s).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Completed, or currently undertaking the EMHP Supervisor Post Graduate Certificate provided by one of the nationally commissioned training providers, which provides eligibility to supervise Trainee EMHPs and qualified EMHPs and CWPs in line with their registration requirements.
  • Completed approved academic course or study in line with the CYP IAPT Low Intensity National Programme and qualified as an EMHP.
  • Registration as an EMHP with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Desirable

  • A further relevant degree qualification.
Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families in an education or health care setting.
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding CYP and other relevant legislation and policies.
  • Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions with children, young people or their families (e.g. CBT, solution focused brief therapy).
  • Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.
  • Experience of negotiating, problem solving and relationship management where there are disagreements or resistance within the system.
  • Experience of line management.
Desirable

  • Demonstrable Knowledge and post qualification experience of working, delivering Low intensity CBT interventions to CYP and or their families within a multi-agency environment.
  • Significant experience of working with CYP and their families around a range of emotional/mental health and developmental needs.
  • Experience of monitoring and recording outcome measures for children's emotional wellbeing.
  • Experience of delivering training in subjects related to mental health and wellbeing.
