Job description

Clinical Supervisor and Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner

The purpose of this role is to extend EMHP and CWP low intensity clinical skillset in response to feedback on the needs of children, young people, and families in educational and community settings, provide opportunities for career progression, and increase the service's supervision capacity.

Main duties of the job

To hold a caseload of 6 to 8 cases, including higher complexity cases. A group is equivalent to two individual cases.

To work co-operatively with other professionals in children's services, health agencies, and other community-based services, including managing relationships with schools and attending internal and external meetings.

To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and report as necessary. To keep up to date with safeguarding policies and procedures within ABL, schools, and Swindon Borough Council (Safeguarding Protecting Children Policy, Safeguarding Adults at Risk Policy, Safeguarding Digital and Online Working for Staff and Volunteers Policy, Parental Consent to Receive Service Policy).

Job Purpose:

Key Responsibilities:
For Service Users

To hold a caseload of 6 to 8 cases, including higher complexity cases. A group is equivalent to two individual cases.

To work co-operatively with other professionals in children's services, health agencies, and other community-based services, including managing relationships with schools and attending internal and external meetings.

To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and report as necessary. To keep up to date with safeguarding policies and procedures within ABL, schools, and Swindon Borough Council.

For Advice and/or Service Development/Leadership

To attend and contribute to relevant meetings as identified by management.

To advise on and/or lead practice in areas of service and cluster specialism.

To develop and evaluate existing and new areas of specialism within the cluster/service. These may change subject to available contracts, funding, or internal service restructuring.

For Resources

To be responsible for any equipment/resources linked to service delivery.

To be responsible for case recording, report writing (including reports for external agencies, e.g., courts, and complex management reports), and producing and maintaining management information.

To be responsible for the requisition of resources needed by staff managed.

For People (Staff, Students, Volunteers)

Learn to use relevant external systems (SharePoint, Datix, IAPTUS).

The senior practitioner may have line management responsibility for up to 4 staff, subject to service need and restructuring, including induction, PDRs, work allocation, job planning, day-to-day supervision, and support. This number may change based on service requirements.

Case management and clinical skills supervision of up to 4 supervisees. This number may also change based on service needs.

Read and keep up to date with relevant ABL policies and procedures.

For Health and Safety

To promote, monitor, and maintain health, safety, and security in the working environment, including general and Covid-specific risk assessments.

Any other relevant training as identified by management.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Qualification mandatory for practice: completing or completion of Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision of Psychological Therapies Practice.
  • Post Graduate CBT or LI CBT qualification, e.g., EMHP, CWP, or PWP, or recognized qualification in CBT-informed evidence-based therapeutic interventions for children/young people and their families.
Experience
  • Direct work with children, young people, and families.
  • Applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Working with other professionals and challenging professional judgments as appropriate.
  • Staff supervision.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Awareness of factors impacting vulnerable children, young people, and families (e.g., disadvantage, poverty, disability).
  • Knowledge of child/young people's development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and promoting children's welfare.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to service aims.
  • Able to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to supervise the work of others.
  • Able to accurately record case notes using appropriate writing and IT skills.
  • Able to write complex reports and produce other management information for external purposes.
  • Able to analyze and resolve problems related to service users and staff supervision, applying innovative solutions where no precedents exist.
  • Able to apply ABL safeguarding and child protection procedures and report as necessary.
