Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Are you a looking for a Band 6 adult specialist Speech and language Therapist position or are you a new graduate seeking a band 5 to 6 development post? We have an exciting opportunity to join the Inpatient Speech & Language Therapy Service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) working together across the acute wards. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated SLT with a passion for supporting patients who present with swallowing and communication difficulties.

You will part of our friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy team working with colleagues as clinical speciality leads, an assistant, and administrative support. You will be a key team member of the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) based on the hospital wards.

As a band 5 to 6 development Speech and language Therapist you would be supported to complete your RCSLT newly qualified and eating, drinking and swallowing competencies framework, alongside local band 5 to 6 development competencies, prior to moving into this substantive band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in assessment and management of a shared communication and dysphagia caseload as an autonomous practitioner. They will be working on the acute wards thus having experience in managing complex presentations and conditions, and post graduate dysphagia training is desirable

They will be able to work collaboratively with the relevant MDTs to deliver goal focused, person centred, integrated therapy to individuals and their relatives.

The individual will gain experience working across a variety of inpatient settings including care of the elderly, emergency care, cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology and surgery whilst having access to clinical specialist services in SLT team including head and neck cancer, voice, and critical care.

The individual will benefit from access to clinical supervision, peer supervision and regular in-service training.It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic, supportive and 'CPD active' SLT team.

Exciting recent service developments include the introduction of sEMG and MBSImP. The service also runs weekly videofluoroscopy clinics and has an established outpatient FEES clinic.

Job responsibilities

To work as an autonomous practitioner and provide a high standard specialist Speech and Language therapy assessment, with the use of analytical and clinical reasoning skills to identify patient problems, ensuring the provision of an effective and specialist treatment plan.

To collaborate closely with the patient and members of the multidisciplinary and multi-agency team to ensure the appropriate setting of individualised treatment goals and therefore best possible outcomes for patients within the Acute service.

To continuously contribute to service development and innovation, whilst providing clinical leadership and support to delegated staff.
