Job summary
A fabulous opportunity to work as a clinical specialist cardio-respiratory OT at The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. This post includes inpatient rehab with ECMO and VADs, Critical Care, Stroke patients, Cardiothoracic surgery, and Respiratory Medicine. The role involves working closely with other Allied Health Professionals within a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job include:
- Managing a specialist Occupational Therapy service in conjunction with the Therapy Lead, contributing to departmental management and Trust initiatives, and developing a specialist OT service across the organization.
- Using expert clinical reasoning to provide highly specialist support and advice to the OT team and medical staff, while maintaining a clinical caseload of highly complex patients.
- Providing professional and clinical leadership in developing and implementing training and personal development plans for all designated OT staff, ensuring training excellence across the organization.
- Supporting the Therapy Lead in identifying and implementing research, audit, and data collection priorities within your area of expertise to inform clinical development.
- Maintaining and improving clinical governance, evidence-based practice, and quality assurance in your designated area.
- Participating in the continuous development of the service as a member of the OT team and contributing to Trust quality and process improvement projects.

Job responsibilities
Professional/Clinical Responsibilities
- Being professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your professional activities.
- Carrying out assessments and formulating care programs for a wide range of patients, including those with complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practices.
- Managing own and departmental patient care plans, including discharge planning, and providing expert consultation within your specialty to colleagues and other health professionals.
- Coordinating interventions, advising, and educating patients, carers, relatives, and other health professionals.
- Managing clinical risks within your caseload and across the service.
- Demonstrating physical ability to perform OT assessments and interventions, including manual therapy and therapeutic handling.
- Exhibiting advanced dexterity, coordination, and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment.
- Assessing and managing a wide range of conditions based on advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, often with conflicting evidence.
- Interpreting and analyzing clinical and non-clinical data to diagnose highly complex conditions accurately.
- Referring to other health disciplines appropriately and ensuring proper referral systems are used.
- Contributing to trust and national initiatives within your specialist area.
- Developing collaborative treatment plans with patients, carers, and colleagues, demonstrating ethical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Ensuring safety during all interventions in hospital, home visits, and other environments.
- Liaising with social services, district nursing, and community therapy teams to coordinate rehabilitation and equipment needs.
- Collaborating with MDT colleagues and other therapy services to deliver high-quality, consistent services.
- Maintaining high professional standards and promoting quality improvements relevant to the OT service and profession.
- Understanding and applying national guidelines and legislation in OT practice.
