Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Clinical Skills Educator to join the purpose-built Clinical Skills Facility (CSF), in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, this is a full-time position.

The role will be based in the Clinical Skills Facility and will report to the Clinical Skills Manager and Teaching Associate.

Applicants are invited from Registered Veterinary Professionals (veterinary surgeon or nurse) with experience in clinical practice. A teaching qualification in education (further or higher) is desirable.

The role of the Clinical Skills Educator involves joint responsibility for the day to day running of the Clinical Skills Facility. This role also teaches canine /small animal handling and basic small animal first opinion clinical skills to undergraduate students.

The role will also significantly contribute to the delivery of clinical skills teaching across the course with the aim of producing practical, skilled veterinary graduates.

This role involves the management of daily consumables and maintenance of teaching models and equipment in the centre and will include room set up and break down for small group practical teaching, centre and equipment cleanliness and tidiness. In addition, the role will also be responsible for overseeing and managing the welfare and availability of live dogs used for clinical skill teaching purposes. This role will significantly contribute to the co-ordination and facilitation of the Department's practical assessments for clinical students.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant post-registration nursing experience, experience of standard veterinary medical and surgical techniques across multiple species, experience of nursing in the FE or HE educational sector in addition to excellent levels of practical skills in order to pass these on to students. Experience in the training of veterinary nurses or veterinary students is essential.

Applicants should also have education sector skills to include session planning, writing schemes of work and quality assurance.
