Job description

Ward 20 - Care of the Elderly

Ward 20 is a 32-bedded inpatient Care of the Elderly Ward located on the 2nd floor of UHCW. Care of the Elderly is part of the Medicine group.

We pride ourselves on our multidisciplinary team and the high standards of care we provide. This role offers opportunities to undertake extended roles, with excellent training and support to develop competence in various areas. Successful applicants will be motivated, eager to develop their nursing skills, and interested in leadership and management.

Applicants should have the skills to support their team, make clinical decisions, and take charge on shifts. You will also support the ward manager in team management, patient safety, and ward performance.

  1. Accountability: Responsible for own actions per the Code of Professional Conduct, contributing to organizational objectives within guidelines and policies.
  2. Communication: Effectively communicate clinical decisions, policies, and care pathways to patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, including in difficult situations.
  3. Leadership: Provide support to management, participate in service and policy development.
  4. Clinical Assessment: Assess and manage a group of patients, ensuring appropriate care planning, implementation, and evaluation involving patients and users.
  5. Organization: Coordinate activities across departments, manage HR resources, handle responsibilities like sickness, absence, and complaints.
  6. Technical Skills: Demonstrate advanced practical skills for patient management, including complex monitoring, equipment management, and invasive procedures.
