Qualifications

  • Ensure continuity of care during patient admission, discharge, and transfer.
  • Monitor patient conditions and maintain patient records.

Job description

The postholder will be responsible in conjunction with the other Clinical Sisters/Charge Nurses for regularly taking charge of the Neonatal Unit in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse with continually 24 hour responsibility and will be responsible for leading a team of Band 5 Staff Nurses who are required to have specialist skills and knowledge of the clinical area. The postholder is responsible for assisting the Ward Manager/Charge Nurse in ensuring that a Band 6 Nurse is available at all times to act as a specialist resource to the neonatal unit.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that programmes of patient care are carried out to the optimum standards. Monitors and reports on patients condition according to the agreed policy, and maintains patients’ records, as required.
  • Organise the admission, discharge and transfer of patients in accordance with hospital policy, ensuring at all times continuity of care.
  • Liaise with Community Nursing Service to ensure satisfactory integrated care of patients. Participates in the development of standards of nursing care and ensures their implementation of his/her area of responsibility.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Part 1, Adult or Children, or Registered Midwife on live NMC Register.
  • ENB 405 course in Neonatal Studies or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience at Band 5 or above in a neonatal unit.
