A prominent NHS foundation trust is seeking a part-time clinical scientist specialized in vascular ultrasound imaging. An exciting part-time opportunity has arisen within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a talented, self-motivated clinical scientist with specialist experience of vascular ultrasound imaging and a strong interest in teaching and research. The successful applicant will become part of a thriving ultrasound physics team, based within the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

The post comprises two complementary roles: teaching for 1 1/2 days per week and contributing to a research programme for half a day per week.
Role 1 – Teaching: you will support the vascular specialism lead in delivering the MSc in Clinical Science course for Newcastle University, which is the sole UK provider of the core vascular modules for the academic component of the Scientist Training Programme. You will contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment as part of the vascular and general modules in the master's programme. This work will be informed by your clinical practice, academic study and training. You will be encouraged to attend appropriate internal and external training courses.
Role 2 – Research: you will contribute to a well-established vascular research programme at the Freeman Hospital, working with vascular surgeons, academic researchers and specialist nurses. You will carry out duplex Doppler ultrasound scanning as part of clinical trials and other grant-funded research projects, as well as advising and supporting research colleagues. You should possess appropriate clinical experience in vascular imaging, enabling you to scan confidently and report independently.
