Job overview

An opportunity for has arisen for a Clinical Scientist to join our friendly and expanding Radiation Physics team here in Swansea.

We provide support and expert advice in diagnostic radiology and radiation protection (X-rays, radioactive materials, and optical sources) to a wide range of departments throughout the Health Board including radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy. Our services are also provided to a number of other NHS and commercial establishments throughout South-West Wales.

The service is based in Singleton hospital which is set in mature parkland overlooking Swansea Bay beach.

Although HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist is desirable, applications are also welcome from pre-registration candidates currently enrolled on STP, Route 2 or Equivalence for consideration as a developmental role at a lower band.

Main duties of the job

The Service forms part of a large, modern and well-integrated Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. The Department has strong links with the adjacent Swansea University and offers accredited training for Clinical Scientists following STP.

As part of a large sub-regional service, the successful applicant will contribute to a wide variety of work activities, including a comprehensive X-ray equipment quality assurance programme, and patient dosimetry and optimisation programme. Skills will be developed by supporting our accredited Medical Physics Experts, Radiation Protection Advisers and Radioactive Waste Adviser and by contributing to a range of diagnostic radiology and radiation safety projects including a new PET-CT facility currently under construction at Singleton hospital.

Essential criteria

Masters in Medical Physics or Equivalent (such as route 2 training)
HCPC
Good knowledge of ionising radiation legislation and guidance
Good knowledge of performance assessment of radiological imaging equipment

PhD or equivalent evidence of research training and experience
