The post holder will be responsible for:
- Management of the Datix system for Women's Health services patient safety incidents
- Supporting the area matrons/clinical leads in the day-to-day management of clinical risk
- Participating in the clinical risk management process within Women's Health Services, in conjunction with the Clinical Governance Manager
- Liaising with the central governance team regarding risk management
- Fostering a cooperative relationship between medical staff, midwives, nurses, and other health professionals within Women's Health Services
Main duties of the job
- Investigating patient safety incidents
- Documenting investigation findings and closing all maternity patient safety incidents on Datix
- Writing and distributing the 'Message of the Week'
- Writing the monthly risk management newsletter
- Preparing monthly and quarterly incident reports
- Chairing the incident review group
- Preparing incident reports and action plans with the Clinical Governance Manager and maternity Matrons
- Preparing papers, distributing minutes, and participating in Women's Health services governance meetings
- Participating in incident reviews (e.g., PSI, PSII, RAR, AAR)
- Attending and participating in weekly perinatal meetings
- Working closely with the Clinical Governance Manager and Trust Risk Management Office
- Collaborating with the Midwifery Management Team and Clinical Leads to develop action plans addressing practice deficits and service improvements

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
- NMC Registered midwife (RM)
- Up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development, including midwifery mandatory skills & drills and other regulatory training
- Registered mentor
Experience
- Woman-centered approach to care
- At least 3 years post-qualification comprehensive midwifery experience
- Expert knowledge and clinical experience in safeguarding and midwifery within all areas of maternity services
- Experience with computerized information systems
- Experience working in a multi-agency approach
- Involvement in clinical audit and research, including implementation and review
Knowledge
- Knowledge of current research, reports, and guidelines related to maternity care and their implications
- Awareness of clinical governance
- Understanding of the roles of related health professionals
- Experience in developing evidence-based guidelines and policies
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in full midwifery skills as per the job description
- Effective organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Computer literacy, including data analysis
- Ability to manage maternal caseloads with complex needs compassionately and professionally
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
