Job Description:

Grade AMN2: £48,288 to £68,710 per annum

Location: CMVM / MGPHS / USHER Institute / Edinburgh BioQuarter

Working hours: Full-time: 40 hours per week

Contract duration: Fixed-term: from 1st September 2025 to 31st August 2028

We will consider requests for hybrid working (remote and on-campus), with a minimum of 40% on campus.

The Centre for Population Health Sciences at the Usher Institute offers an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellowship to undertake independent research and a PhD.

The Opportunity:

This fully funded 3-year position offers a chance to develop skills in linked data handling, geospatial analysis, and qualitative interviewing in cancer prevention. The project contributes to national work on stratified bowel cancer screening.

The candidate will engage with a national and international network of cancer researchers, aiming to become a leading clinical academic in Scotland focused on cancer prevention. The research will be published in high-impact journals and presented at international conferences. Opportunities include working with the UK National Screening Committee and Scotland’s Screening Oversight Group to implement screening improvements based on research findings.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A medical degree with full GMC registration.
  • Research experience sufficient for PhD research (masters or equivalent).
  • Critical thinking skills appropriate for PhD study.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team.
