Job description

Full-time: 40 hours per week

Fixed-term: 36 months

The Opportunity:

The opportunity has arisen for an innovative obstetric doctor with a passion for increasing global access to high quality intrapartum care to join the I3P team, working within the Centre for Reproductive Health. The I3P Programme is an innovative research collaboration of academic and industry partners aiming to address the short fall in worldwide obstetric care by developing wearable sensors to monitor maternal and foetal vital signs during labour and immediately post-partum.

The postholder will work with our partners in Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Rwanda to test and develop wearable sensors and data driven approaches to detect complications such as obstructed labour and post-partum haemorrhage. The post holder will be supported to develop and investigate their own research questions, aligned with the goals of the I3P program. They will be expected to register for a PhD with the University of Edinburgh, and funding is available to cover registration and tuition.

This post is full-time (40 hours per week); however, we are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The salary for this post is£48,288 to £91,753per annum.

Appointment above spine point 5 on the AMN2 scale may result in a reduction of contract length.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • For candidates planning to complete their training in the UK, eligibility to progress in higher specialist training is important so these candidates should either (i) hold a national training number at ST3 or above or (ii) holdMRCOG(UK) or equivalent and have obtained a post for core clinical training. An application for time ‘out of programme’ from current clinical training will be supported in order to undertake this research.
  • Candidates from overseas who are not already fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) to practice medicine in the UK, will be considered for appointment provided that (i) they hold a primary medical qualification that entitles them to apply for full GMC registration, with or without sitting the PLAB examination (for details, please visit www.gmc-uk.org); and (ii) they have relevant post-graduate clinical experience, including MRCOG(UK) or equivalent. GMC registration must be obtained before appointment.
  • Evidence of commitment to global women’s health and women’s health research.
