St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a regional specialist care provider serving south west London, Surrey, and beyond. It offers comprehensive health services, including tertiary and trauma care, with a population catchment of around 5 million.
The trust collaborates with St George’s, University of London, and King’s Health Partners to deliver high-quality research and education. It operates over 1,000 beds across two sites, employs around 8,000 staff, and provides a wide range of specialist services including trauma, neurology, cardiac care, renal transplantation, cancer care, and stroke care.
This is an exciting opportunity for a resident doctor to gain experience in clinical research related to motor neurone disease, while continuing neurology training. The role involves a 50:50 split between research and clinical duties, with a detailed timetable to be agreed.
The research component includes supporting clinical studies, recruitment, governance, and setting up new studies. Clinical duties involve evaluation, consent, administering rating scales, attending clinics, and participating in research meetings and seminars.
The post offers opportunities for clinic-based work, acute stroke care, and regional neurology work. The role requires participation in on-call duties and attendance at multidisciplinary meetings. The person must have MRCP(UK) or equivalent, experience in neurology or stroke medicine, and demonstrate research interest and teaching enthusiasm.
We value candidates who are team players, good communicators, organized, motivated, and committed to clinical governance and continuous improvement.
