A major NHS Foundation Trust in London is seeking a Clinical Hepatologist focused on translational research and clinical service provision. This role involves patient care, research in rapid infection diagnostics, and participation in multi-disciplinary teams. Candidates must have a registrable medical qualification and experience at the registrar level in gastroenterology or hepatology. The position offers a salary of £61,825 to £70,425 per annum.
Job summary
This 1 year post is designed to offer a unique 50:50 split between Clinical Hepatology Service Provision/Training and Translational Research & Clinical Trials Experience. The successful applicant will undertake a translational research project supervised by Dr Vishal Patel and his research group focusing on the rapid infection diagnostics in cirrhosis (RIDiC) study, with an opportunity to also be involved in clinical trial delivery. RIDiC has attracted external, peer-reviewed funding (GUTS UK) and is being conducted as part of an investigator-initiated study, supported by Oxford Nanopore UK. This work aims to address the increase in infection-related complications andmortality in cirrhosis, compounded by the challenges of antimicrobial resistance. Many of the techniques relate to novel microbiome workstreams also being researched in the Patel lab, with the candidate having unique exposure to these aspects as part of the role.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be involved in fixed clinical commitments which will be determined by both their clinical training needs and the service requirements of the Liver Unit. Clinical service commitments will include 2 outpatient clinics per week as well as involvement in MDTs and clinical governance, and will complement to an extent the research project.
