An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Research and Innovation Division at The Christie. We are looking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow to the Melanoma research team. This post offers the chance to join an established research team with a varied portfolio of clinical trials. The Melanoma disease research team is responsible for a diverse range of academic and commercial clinical trials. This is a 10-session SpR equivalent Trust Grade post based at the Christie site in the Department of Medical Oncology. It is suitable for individuals seeking specialist training and experience in melanoma patient care and early phase clinical trials.
To work as a Clinical Research Fellow under the supervision of Professor Paul Lorigan, Dr. Avinash Gupta, Dr. Patricio Serra, and Dr. Rebecca Lee. The role involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, research nurses, and data managers. Key responsibilities include implementing evidence-based practice for clinical trial patients, supporting clinical research, managing melanoma patients, attending MDTs and educational meetings, supporting research and NHS clinics (typically 4 per week), and developing evidence-based protocols. The post also involves contributing to professional development, training junior staff, participating in clinical governance, conducting audits, and engaging in research activities, including publishing and developing new projects.
The Melanoma team comprises nurses and consultants with clinical trial coordination and project management support. The team aims to maximize treatment opportunities for melanoma patients and increase recruitment into clinical trials. We foster a collaborative working environment to promote achievements across the division and with our sponsors, focusing on service improvement and providing excellent patient experiences.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for a 40-hour week position in Medical Oncology. The role involves clinical management, supporting research clinics, protocol development, professional development, training, clinical governance, audit, and research. The post does not require on-call duties.
The Trust supports CPD activities aligned with GMC and college standards, offering time and financial support. The appointee will undergo regular appraisals and maintain ongoing professional development.
A provisional timetable includes outpatient clinics, ward rounds, MDT meetings, educational sessions, research support, and personal development activities, typically structured as 4-hour sessions across the week.
