Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Clinical Research Coordinator to join St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to work on The Generation Study.

The Generation Study, sponsored by Genomics England, is a landmark national study aiming to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of expanding newborn screening. The study involves sequencing the DNA of 100,000 newborns to identify rare genetic conditions.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge genomic research with the potential to shape the future of newborn screening in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will coordinate the day-to-day delivery of The Generation Study in collaboration with maternity services, research midwives, Principal Investigators, R&D, and Genomics England.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will play a key role in delivering the study across maternity and research services, supporting the identification and recruitment of pregnant individuals, assisting with core study procedures including sample processing and data entry, all in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and the study protocol. There will also be a focus on promoting engagement with the study among the public, participants, and clinicians to ensure the success of the program.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential): Life sciences degree or equivalent experience.

Desirable qualifications: Recent GCP training or qualification in research/clinical trials.

Experience (Essential): At least 1 year in a clinical trial setting or similar, experience in data entry and management, dealing with the public, and team projects.

Desirable experience: NHS experience, project management, clinical laboratory work, familiarity with Research Governance policies.

Skills (Essential): Excellent organization, communication, attention to detail, IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint), patient communication, time management, ability to work under pressure.

Desirable skills: Phlebotomy.

Knowledge (Essential): Clinical trials regulations, medical terminology.

Desirable knowledge: Clinical genetics, reproductive health, maternal health.
