The Role

We invite applications for a Clinical Research Associate to work within the Population Health Sciences Institute. The post involves contributing to projects on health inequalities and workforce development, working with Professor Gillian Vance and Dr Sarah Sowden.

Requirements include a degree in medicine, research experience in healthcare inequalities and public health, and skills in qualitative research, publication, and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality applied health research within set timelines.
  • Assist in study design, data collection, organization, and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with research governance and Data Protection laws.
  • Present research findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare publications and reports for stakeholders.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Support the research team and contribute to relevant infrastructures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including the public.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed.
  • Undertake teaching related to health inequalities and research methods.
  • Manage deadlines and priorities.
  • Guide support staff and research students.
The Person: Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
  • Current or recent employment on the Specialised Foundation Programme or postgraduate experience in a public health academic unit.
  • Experience in public health research on health and care inequalities, especially workforce development.
  • Knowledge of the North East and North Cumbria Deep End primary care network.
  • Conference presentation experience.
  • Peer-reviewed publication authorship.
  • Experience in evidence synthesis, qualitative research, and analysis.
  • Understanding of confidentiality principles.
  • Flexibility, collaboration, analytical skills, clear communication, initiative, interpersonal skills, organization, and record-keeping skills.
Desirable
  • Experience recruiting research participants.
  • Basic statistical skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policy and practice.
