Job Opportunity: Band 7 Clinical Psychologist at St George’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join our Major Trauma Centre at St George’s Hospital. This role offers the chance to work with patients experiencing serious and life-changing injuries, as well as their families and staff within the Major Trauma service.

The post holder will become part of a multidisciplinary team where psychology is highly valued. Alongside clinical responsibilities, there will be opportunities to develop psychological care pathways within the Major Trauma Centre as part of the Integrated Psychological Model of Care pilot.

About the Service

The Clinical Psychology Service at the Major Trauma Centre was established in May 2012 and supports adult patients across the hospital. The service includes staff training, consultation, and clinical work with patients and families, such as:

1. Helping patients understand their thoughts, feelings, and reactions post-injury, considering their previous experiences and hospital environment.
2. Providing psychoeducation on psychological reactions to trauma, managing distress, and coping with pain and medical procedures.
3. Assisting with problem-solving for current difficulties.
4. Exploring barriers to rehabilitation engagement.
5. Supporting coping resources and resilience.
6. Liaising with the multidisciplinary team for discharge planning.

Most clinical work occurs on trauma wards, ICU, or during rehabilitation sessions, offering creative opportunities for intervention delivery.
