Clinical Psychologist (Pain Management Programme)

In management and training, they participate in service meetings and deliver education on psychological pain models. They maintain accurate records, collaborate with administration, engage in research and audits, contribute to service development, and ensure continuous professional development to stay current with advances in pain psychology.

The Clinical Psychologist will play a key role in delivering specialist psychological services within the Pain Management Team. Working autonomously yet collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment, formulation, and delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions tailored to individuals with persistent pain.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting specialist psychological assessments, integrating data from various sources such as psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, interviews, and observations involving patients, families, and others.
  2. Developing and implementing psychological treatment plans addressing physical and psychological difficulties, grounded in theoretical frameworks and current evidence-based practices.
  3. Delivering a range of interventions, including individual therapy, group interventions, and support for carers and families, focusing on chronic pain and associated mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and trauma.
  4. Making informed clinical decisions about treatment options, considering complex developmental and historical factors.
  5. Maintaining professional responsibility for assessment, treatment, and discharge, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
  6. Providing expert psychological advice, consultation, and guidance to internal and external professionals to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
  7. Undertaking risk assessments and contributing to risk management strategies.
  8. Communicating complex clinical information empathetically to diverse audiences, including assessment findings, treatment progress, and formulation discussions.
  9. Fostering a psychologically informed environment within the multidisciplinary team by sharing knowledge and offering consultations.
  10. Ensuring psychological services are coordinated and patient-centered, facilitating access to comprehensive care and appropriate referrals.

The post holder will be integral in advancing clinical and psychological excellence within the Pain Management Service, ensuring holistic, high-quality care for individuals managing persistent pain.
