Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist Band 7 to join the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS), part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) CAMHS, based at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

This role offers a chance for dedicated mental healthcare professionals to promote and improve the mental health and well-being of children and young people with physical health conditions and their families.

We provide inpatient and outpatient support to patients with a wide range of physical health conditions on a local, regional, national, and international basis. Working within the PPS, you'll work with children and young people up to 18 years old and their families, addressing complex emotional and behavioral difficulties related to physical health conditions.

You will manage a defined caseload, responsible for assessment, treatment, and discharge, and will also provide consultation and liaison with medical teams.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the development, provision, and evaluation of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to patients within the North of England Epilepsy Surgery Service at RMCH and the NHS England Proton Beam Radiotherapy (PBT) Service at The Christie Hospital.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessment and intervention with children, their families, and adults, including specialist neuropsychological assessment
  • Liaison with medical teams in Epilepsy and PBT
  • Attendance at multi-disciplinary clinics
  • Supervision of assistant psychologists
  • Follow-up and neuropsychological assessment of PBT patients in collaboration with other national treatment centers
  • Work with schools and community professionals
  • Staff training
  • Consultation, support, and psychological advice
  • Adherence to professional guidelines
  • Research, audit, policy, and service development
  • Effective teamwork and liaison with staff from various services

Person specification
Qualifications
  • A recognized qualification in: Registered Nursing (RMN/RSCN/RNMH), Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work (CQSW/DipSW), or Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, UKCP, HCPC, BACP).
Experience and Knowledge
